Regular exercises and physical therapies are considered as alternative treatments for spine related disorders. Postural adjustments and controlling through proper exercise devices are useful in reducing the risk of spine curve progression and low-back pain. Studies have argued that a significant improvement of postural stability and body alignment can be achieved through training devices, specific exercises, and rehabilitation programs. Training devices that induce exercise for spine related disorders comprises a sequence of particular physical activities executed with a therapeutic purpose of decreasing the spine abnormality. Patients learn the exercise protocol that is tailored as per the medical physiotherapeutic assessments. The main goal of physical exercise in minor cases of spine related disorders is the balance of the spine joint with three-dimensional auto corrections of the spine, pelvis and rib-cage. Studies have shown a significant positive effect of standing on an inclined slope surface in the treatment of low-back pain as compared to standing on a level surface. The treatment of spine abnormalities including chronic low-back pain is still difficult and the available rehabilitation programs have limited efficiency because of the wide range of exercise interventions used, its ineffectiveness, inconsistent recommendations regarding the use, proper place and duration of exercise required, and incomplete explanations on particular types of exercise platforms. Until now, there is no proper exercise platform that induces the use of inclined slope surface for spine related disorders and muscle activation and relaxation. Although the use of inclined slope surface for exercise is more promising as compared to the existing exercise approaches. In addition, there is a limited availability of the exercise devices in the market for patients with early scoliosis. With these motives in mind, the present study aims to apply a design process with an ergonomic approach to develop an inclined surface slope platform that can improve imbalanced postures and reduce spine curve progression. Based on the above, the present study offers a balance body exercise design practice for a martial art company by developing a new exercise platform. The design practice in this study aims that the platform is capable to induce a balance body exercise and help relief low-back pain caused by spine related disorders. The platform is developed by industry-academic collaboration in which the martial art company provided our design team its first product for further development and improvement. The company has made it to induce a balance body exercise practice and improve spine related disorders by muscle activation around the spine. The company requested our design team to improve the product using design-driven development to increase its effectiveness in the martial art exercise and make it ergonomically rich in use. The company found that the product does not reflect any ergonomic features because most of its trainees found to have discomfort and fatigue with the product. The product was made of wooden boards and it was difficult to mass-produce and meet market demands. Based on the above grounds and the company requirements, I applied a design process with an ergonomic approach to develop an arc based exercise device by considering the ergonomic features. I evaluated the effect of applying the arc shape for feet adjustment to assist postural adjustments and balance body exercise. According to the proposed exercise design practice of postural training, the rationale was to use the back muscles around the spine to retain the spine within the normal curvature.
